An audiogram is the graphical representation of the results of pure-tone air conduction tests. Vertical lines represent the testing frequencies, arranged from low-pitched on the left to high-pitched on the right. Horizontal lines represent the loudness, from very soft at the top to very loud at the bottom.

Hearing threshold is an indication of how soft a sound may get before it is inaudible. A hearing threshold of between 0 and 25 dB is considered normal. Hearing Loss and the Audiogram. An audiogram is a graph of behavioral responses to tonal sounds.

The audiogram above is empty, no test results have been recorded on it yet. You can see down the left-hand side the numbers starting at -10 and going up to 120 – these numbers represent the decibel level (volume) at which you can hear a particular sound. The pictures and letters in the chart above represent a normal hearing range at different volume and pitch levels.

The most basic audiogram is a screening test such as is used in the schools. A series of tones at fixed levels are present and the listener indicates which he or she can hear. The levels are set so that those who hear them should have hearing within normal limits and those who don’t are referred for a threshold audiogram.

0dB to 20dB = Normal range 21dB to 40 dB = Mild hearing loss 41 dB to 55 dB = Moderate hearing  10 Mar 2020 An adult is classified as having normal hearing ability if their responses indicate they heard noises between 0 and 25 dB across the frequency  30 Sep 2014 The results of the basic hearing test are plotted for each ear on a graph called an audiogram. As you move from left to right on the audiogram, the frequencies increase, which means the tones become higher pitched. On the left side of the audiogram, the loudness of a sound signal is depicted. In a standard audiogram, the numbers across the top of the graph start at 250 Hertz ("Hz," or cycles per second) and proceed to 8k Hz (8000 cycles per second), with the following one octave intervals: 250 / 500 / 1k / 2k / 4k / 8k. Every octave -- every interval across the top -- forms a square with every 20 decibel (20 "dB") change going down. Sounds around 85 dB for prolonged periods of time can cause hearing loss If you have to raise your voice to be heard, (normal conversation is around 60dB) you are most likely in an environment with at least 80 dB of noise. Screening audiometry presents tones across the speech spectrum (500 to 4,000 Hz) at the upper limits of normal hearing (25 to 30 dB for adults, and 15 to 20 dB for children).17 Results are The audiogram is a graph showing the results of a pure-tone hearing test.It will show how loud sounds need to be at different frequencies for you to hear them. The audiogram shows the type, degree, and configuration of hearing loss.
